The event celebrated the launch of Domesek’s new book, P.S.-You're Invited . . .: 40+DIY Projects for All of Your Fashion, Home Décor & Entertaining Needs.
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make this funky accessory at home.
Materials – Metallic tape (gold or silver works best), black chalkboard paint, West Elm square lacquer tray (any colour), foam brush, scissors.
Step 1: Paint it
Use chalkboard paint and a foam brush to make geometric shapes of your liking on the inside of the tray. Don’t worry about getting the lines perfectly straight – outer lines can be messy as the tape will hide them later! Be sure to let your new shapes dry for at least 1 to 2 minutes before proceeding.
Step 2: Cut it
Now it’s time to bring out your metallic tape. Cut pieces to desired lengths and make sure that your longer pieces are trimmed at the end. You can measure and cut shorter pieces to fill in shapes later.
Step 3: Tape it
Use tape to outline your shapes. Place tape directly onto the tray and extend the tape to the end. Press the tape down with your fingers to smooth out any crinkles and snip off any excess tape.
Step 4: Layer it
Continue overlapping your tape pieces to create additional geometric shapes to fill up your tray. Layer tape to completely fill in these shapes and create a bold contrast.
That’s all there is to it! Enjoy your newly crafted geometray and keep on crafting.
