Give a beautiful gift and help single mothers in Vancouver

The holiday season is a time of joy and abundance for a lot of us, but for many families in our community it is a time fraught with worry. British Columbia has the second highest child poverty rate in the country, so Vancouver-based charity Cause We Care Foundation was created to provide relief and support to those most affected: marginalized single mothers and their children.

This year marks Cause We Care’s eighth annual Hamper Drive, which aims to do double-duty by providing 600 hampers to organizations in the Lower Mainland that support these families and to raise funds for YWCA Cause We Care House, a subsidized housing project in the Downtown Eastside.

So what can you do? Spend your money on gifts that make a difference.

A $60 online donation will gift a deserving family a hamper worth twice that value in food, treats and essential items to fill their cupboards – luxuries the majority of us take for granted.

If you're looking for a last-minute gift, Blue Ruby jewellery will direct 100 per cent of the proceeds from sales of their new handcrafted holiday bracelets (pictured above) to Cause We Care programming.

Pottery Barn will donate proceeds from its special edition ‘German Glitter Houses’ on offer as part of their Give a Little Hope Campaign and Aritzia has launched a campaign in which they will donate a brick for every post or mention on social media towards the build of the Cause We Care subsidized housing. To contribute to their goal of 4,000 bricks, use the hashtag #FullofHeart.

A gift you give to a loved one could mean a great deal more to a single mother this Christmas.
