"Chlorine, salt water, sun and air-conditioning can all make nails brittle and dry. It’s important to use a moisturizing hand (and foot) lotion daily, especially after swimming, washing hands, and dishes. I love the Hand Chemistry products for this, which we sell at The Ten Spot. Cuticles can also become dry in the summer months and I’d recommend applying cuticle oil to protect and moisturize.
"Nails tend to grow faster in the summer so it’s important to trim and file down regularly to avoid breakage and injury. Also, make sure to always have gel polish removed professionally to avoid damaging and weakening the nail surface.
"Don’t forget to protect nails from too much sun and apply SPF, just like you would on other parts of the body. Exfoliation can also do wonders for the hands and we love our in-house Get Nailed scrubs.
"And, like with everything, diet can play a role in nail care. Eat foods rich in calcium and protein, and drink plenty of water."
"Pastel colours are typically popular for the summer and this year is no exception. Bright colours are also very popular this season, including not just the usual reds and corals, but also lots of bright blues. We’re also seeing a lot of jewel tones, and glitter continues to be popular."
"We’re seeing lots of colourful French tips with pastel colours and reds. We’ve also been doing a lot of simple geometrical designs, like vertical stripes as well as half moons. The negative space trend is definitely continuing with lots of reds, brights and pastels. Sparkle fades are also very popular this season."
Summer is just around the corner, and it's time to update your mani/pedi routine with the hottest colours and designs of the season. Besides having them look fabulous, it's important to protect your nails and skin, especially if you're going to be spending a lot of time in the sun.
